Recent research has proven that oligomeric procyanidins (OPCs) present in cranberry juice lower blood pressure and promote heart health.

OPCs in cranberry juice reduce blood vessel constriction, thereby decreasing the chances of high blood pressure. OPCs in cranberry juice inhibit Endothelin-1 synthesis – a compound that constricts the blood vessels, one of the main causes of heart diseases.

Cranberry juice also contains antioxidants that protect the body against free radicals. Polyphenols present in cranberry juice increases circulating levels of good HDL cholesterol. Cranberry juice inhibits the oxidation of LDL particles or bad cholesterol and helps to fight atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases.

Cranberry juice also promotes urinary tract health and is very effective in fighting urinary tract infections. The Journal of Medicinal Food has published articles relating to the health benefits of cranberry juice and its treatment in various kidney and gall bladder-related ailments. It has a high amount of acid, which prevents the formation of kidney stones. Drinking a glass of pure cranberry juice decreases the risk of urinary tract infections, prevents harmful bacteria like E-coli to stick to the walls of the cells, and prevents bacteria from infecting healthy cells. This wonder fruit even stops tooth decay and prevents the formation of plaque and helps in overall oral hygiene.

Preliminary studies have shown that flavonoids found in cranberries can stop the development of breast cancer to some extent, and even prevents rapid growth of tumors. Cranberry juice can also destroy the bacteria helicobacter pylori, which causes stomach ulcers. It is also very beneficial for children, since it helps to fight respiratory and ear infections in children and treats sore throats. This juice also helps to burn excess fat and is very effective in weight loss. It is a rich source of calcium and helps to develop strong bones and prevent osteoporosis. It is best to take this juice in the unsweetened form to gain maximum benefits.
