While this may seem confusing, it is part of the journey of learning a lot about ourselves as we engage in our road to fat loss.

With that in mind, some common ground among the majority of us is the more we take care of ourselves in regards to rest and nourishment between training sessions, the more success we will see in reaching our goals. The process will also be more enjoyable with the results being longer lasting.

With this mindset, we transition into a lifestyle of health and fitness as opposed to following a fad diet which may not be very enjoyable and have very short-term results.

With a healthy outlook in mind, here are some basic suggestions that will assist in a nice launch to fat loss and vitality:

Always start the day off with a balanced breakfast. This is a very vital time to eat. Being in a fasting mode all night, our bodies are expecting and needing food to get started for the day. Without this meal, we will have a more difficult time functioning emotionally and physically. This could also have a negative impact on metabolism, greatly affecting the rate at which we see those results. This does not give us permission to start the day off with sugary cereals or whatever we want. Think good fats, clean protein and complex carbohydrates. Think protein shakes. These are ideal in the morning because they’re quick and easy and packed full of essential nutrients.

Eat smaller meals every 3 hours as opposed to larger meals a few times a day. This assists in stabilizing our blood sugar, which helps to maintain our energy levels throughout the day and fires up our metabolism like crazy. The result? More efficient fat loss while feeling awesome!

Dietary supplements are also a good way to lose weight and will give you that extra boost that is sometimes needed to get your weight loss program off to a good start. Some fat burners help curb cravings, elevate metabolism and give you that much-needed charge of energy.

Drink sufficient amounts of good quality water. Take your body weight in pounds, divide by two, and this is how many ounces of water you should drink. Adjust according to your training regimen. Staying hydrated also helps us function in countless ways. Water benefits us by helping to limit cravings, improve skin texture and brain function, and decrease water retention. When water is exposed to plastic over an extended period of time, the plastic can leach into the water. This is bad news for our bodies, as it can effect digestion and hormone levels and they’re bad for the environment.

Do not be afraid of lifting weights! Resistance training helps build lean tissue and gives our physiques amazing shape. Remember, the more lean tissue we have, the easier it is to lose body fat and keep it off (more muscle = higher metabolic rate). Avoiding weights and focusing on cardio will only lead to a smaller version of the shape you already have.

Beginners may benefit from a full-body resistance training session two to three times a week, and no more than three cardiovascular sessions per week. The cardio sessions may vary according to the type chosen. Start off slowly, working at a light to moderate intensity for approximately 20-30 minutes (depending on the person and any special circumstances). As you become more comfortable and feel how your body reacts to the exertion, graduate to interval type training like circuit training. Intervals are so much fun and can show some amazing results in a shorter period of time.
