TRAINING VIDEO: Yesterday was visit number 3 with Dr. Kersten and this time more acupuncture points were used in traps, rhomboids, low back and points along the spinal column.

Sixteen needles were used for back this time! I kind of wish I could have seen what it looked like back there! There is a lot less tension today. Now that the show is getting closer, our visits will be closer together to help with recovery and decreased muscle tension, etc.

The good news is that I have more strength this time out than last time. It’s kind of funny, as the show gets closer and strength decreases, the number of chin-ups I am able to perform lessens. I have never been able to perform more than 5 in a row from about 7 weeks on from a show. With this prep and all of the new things being implemented (more rest, acupuncture and chiro, new meal plan, etc.) I did 9 consecutive chin-ups for the first set. This may not be a lot to most people, but it sure is to me at this point in prep. Maintaining more strength could be a great indicator that my body is recovering and functioning more efficiently this time.

Today measurements were checked and compared to last season. This is such a good feeling. Besides hips, which are only ½” larger now, measurements now at 5 weeks out match the measurements from 3 days out from the last show. Comparisons would be a lot more accurate if a skin fold test had been done last year, but from this information things are looking okay! My weight is still heavy for my structure (I’m not sure why, but it’s been like that since I was very young, so not too much attention is paid to the number).

A 9-point skin fold test will be done tomorrow and my coach Steph and I will be getting together. I’m getting more and more excited about everything. The goal was to come in leaner than last time and it looks like that’s the way things are headed.

Here are the measurements from 11 weeks out and from today:

11 weeks out (Jan 23/10)         5 Weeks Out (March 6/10)

Weight: 145lbs                                  Weight: 140lbs
Chest: 36.5″                                       Chest: 34.5″
Bicep: 11.5″                                        Bicep: 11″
Waist: 27.25″                                     Waist: 26″
Hips: 36.5″                                          Hips: 35.75″
Thigh: 21.5″                                        Thigh: 20.75

This is so encouraging! Now, yes things have changed! Tomorrow after visiting with Steph, we’ll know if they are changing at the rate they should be!
