The moment I set eyes on Olympic Javelin Thrower Leryn Franco, I instantly developed a crush reminiscent of junior high school.
If you were to ask nearly anyone which sport gets them most excited during the Summer Olympics, chances are, Women’s Javelin wouldn’t top the list. Let’s face it, you might not hear that response once. I myself would have said the same thing. That is until I laid my eyes on an athlete who turned me into an instant Women’s Javelin fan – for, well, a little over a week.
It was during the Summer Olympic Games of 2008. The Track & Field preliminary stages were being broadcast and I was sprawled out on my couch slipping in and out of a mid-afternoon nap. I, like probably many others, felt it was an appropriate time to doze off until something more bracing came on. The cameras then cut to a tall, olive-skinned beauty from Paraguay. I was immediately revived from my groggy state. Her name is Leryn Franco and I had instantly developed a crush reminiscent of junior high school. You know, like when you, along with all the other seventh-grade guys, unanimously had a crush on the prettiest girl in that grade. Except in this case, this girl happened to be a gorgeous woman from some far-off exotic country, who most likely had an accent that would make any man with a pulse buckle at the knees.
Sure, Leryn Franco wasn’t exactly the best Javelin competitor in the Olympics that year, but that didn’t bother me one bit; I think I can speak for most people who followed Franco during that summer. Her Olympic career was short-lived and she didn’t medal. Although, I think she gained the hearts of many around the world. That has to count for something, right? Regardless, if Franco is an elite athlete or not, doesn’t have much bearing on my feelings regarding her sex appeal. She is undoubtedly my candidate for today’s sexiest athlete. Now I must wait patiently until the 2012 Summer Olympics Games arrive to see if she will grace the world with her beauty once again. That reminds me, what’s the going rate for plane fair to Rio de Janeiro these days?
