Woman crouching on a scaleI am so frustrated. I work out on a regular basis, I watch what I eat, yet when I weigh myself, sometimes I’m 2 lbs heavier than the day before. How can I put on 2 lbs in only one day, when I’m on a diet? It doesn’t make sense.

Ok, so first off take a deep breath. I certainly don’t recommend weighing yourself daily, once a week should be more than sufficient. So here’s the thing with bodyweight:  Your weight changes not only from day to day, but throughout the day. Changes can be based on how much water your body is carrying, hormones, fluid intake, and exercise.

Continue to be consistent with your workouts and nutrition, but only weigh yourself once a week. Weigh yourself on the same day each week, at the same time, and using the same scale. All of these variables make a difference.

Also, don’t use only weight as a means to see how your body is progressing. Check your body fat (you can retest every 3 – 4 weeks), and take your measurements. Stay positive!

    This is a good reflection on why you might have “gained” a couple of pounds. But I think that you should weigh yourself as many times as you reasonably can (daily, no clothes), and keep track of it with a table or a chart.

    After you collect some data, you will be able to check the trend in time, and that is the important thing you should be looking at.

    Depending on your weight loss (or gain) goals and diet, you should be able to track your progress after collecting daily data for 3 weeks or more. If you only look at day-to-day weight changes, you’re paying attention to “noise”.

    If you are not seeing the results you expect, look back on your plan and how well you stuck to it (diet and work out). Did you cheat? Did you break any rules? Are you having too many treats? Are you giving in to that particular food you like the most..?
